12/4/10 - Day 351
I startled this guy as he was roaming through our backyard during our first measurable snow.
Taken for Daily Shoot #384: "Find a composition today with a strong line or edge that cuts from one corner of the frame to the other." Diagonal antlers?

First Flakes
12/1/10 - Day 348
The light snow covering on the deck made it pretty easy to accomplish today's Daily Shoot assignment #381: "Use vignetting in a photograph today. Either add it in post (easier) or do it in camera via lens or lighting (harder)." Did not use the vignetting sliders at all, only a little exposure and recovery to bring out the detail. And, a little creative placement of the flashlight beam. Check out my Flickr photostream for the runner-up shot.

Monday Morning Fog
3/8/10 - Day 80
Woke up to this gloomy day and snapped this shot on the way to the train station.

Morning Stroll
2/24/10 - Day 68
Noon flight back to Chicago, so while my colleagues went skiing, I just hung out at the apartment until leaving for the airport. Standing out on the balcony, I saw this couple strolling in the solitude of the snow-covered landscape. Caught the image with the 18-200mm fully extended.

Alpine Shadows
2/23/10 - Day 67
Riding the Alpine Springs chairlift on a picture perfect day, this tree and shadow image unfolded quickly. Fortunately, it was a long lift ride and I had the camera at the ready.

Chairlift
2/21/10 - Day 65
Lucky to get into Snowmass today as visibility at Aspen Airport fluctuated greatly. Riding the chairlift with Marshall & Randy; hard to tell from the image, but it snowed all afternoon. Check out the "Runner-up" photo at my Smugmug site.

Ice Dam or Damn Ice?
2/20/10 - Day 64
Snow this past week, some light snow this morning and then melting caused the ice to build up at the gutter. This image was shot and processed in color...it was really a dreary, gray day. Also, fulfills the Daily Shoot assignment of filling the frame.

Celestial
2/10/10 - Day 54
This shot was taken just after midnight during the snowstorm which was the subject of yesterday's posting. I shot this through a sliding glass door, the abstract pattern created by an outdoor light fixture and melted snowflakes on the glass. See my Runner-ups gallery at Smugmug for an additional shot in this series.

Beautiful Sight
2/9/10 - Day 53
With heavy snow all day long, I figured the weather would be the theme of today's image. The Daily Shoot assignment today was to make a photo of something "beautiful". I've combined both since this was a beautiful sight in the parking lot at the train station.

Who Rides This?
1/11/10 - Day 24
For some time now, on the way to the office, I've seen this bike locked up regardless of the weather. First impression is that it is just abandoned, but it's gone in the afternoons and back again in the mornings. That is one tough bike and rider.

Shadows & Tracks
1/3/10 - Day 16
Just before leaving the house this morning, I noticed glistening of the snow in the morning light. I grabbed the D90 with the 90mm lens and snapped a few shots on the deck. The opposing direction of the animal tracks and shadows in this image made for the most interesting composition of the series.

Chicago Evening
12/30/09 - Day 12
Downtown Chicago evening shoot including Federal Plaza, State Street, Millennium Park and North Michigan Avenue. Since it was snowing, the wet pavement made for some striking reflections. However, city reflections in the Bean, with the adhering snow powder and chunks, made for an unusual composition. The snow forms, at quick glance, almost look like continents on a globe. The sky in the upper left corner gives an additional clue that this image is of a reflection. Was taken handheld using an 18-200mm VR lens on a D90.

Light at the End of the Tunnel
12/26/09
It snowed all day and was pretty gray out; not good conditions for shooting photos. Took a couple of shots from the car but wasn't satisfied. Later on, when the snow stopped, I took the D90 out for some night shooting. Had a few interesting shots, but this one of the pedestrian bridge over McHenry Road, taken about 8:40pm, is today's choice. The clouds had thinned and the moon was out. The light was an interesting balance between cool moonlight and warm streetlights. This was a 6 second exposure (on a tripod).

City Lights
12/22/09
Keeping with the commuting theme, this shot is taken looking west along the Adams Street bridge over the Chicago River. It was snowing and the wet pavement enhances the reflections. Since it was generally a dreary day, I decided to put the image through some heavy post-processing in Lightroom as a counterpoint to the gloom.
4 days down, 361 to go.

Reflections in snow and ice
12/20/09
The weekend snow created some nice scenes in Riverwoods. I went out shooting and came upon this puddle of ice and water. Fortunately, I had the fisheye lens and captured another self-portrait amongst the trees and sky. No, I did not have my scuba gear on.

I couldn't wait until January 1st
I am pretty stoked about this Project 365 and spent last night setting up the blog. I've decided to start the shooting early. Maybe this will provide a few "sick days" during the course of the year if/when I just can't get a shot done.
What better way to kick off a Project 365 than with a self-portrait. I wanted to take an image involving two of my hobbies; photography & cycling. So on this snowy morning, I set the tripod up in the garage and the mountain bike on the driveway and fired off a few self-timer shots.
1 day down, 364 to go.
