12/18/09
Recent participation in some photography forums has piqued an interest in doing a Project 365. Photography has been a hobby on and off for over 40 years and in the last 18 months my interest has intensified. So I've decided to jump in, give it a shot (no pun intended) and see if I can shoot every day for a year.

My expectations for this project are that it will provide motivation to expand my skills both behind the camera and in post-processing and provide a vehicle for experimentation. My photog pal Doug has been a great mentor, so I want to publicly say thanks; this is your fault (kidding of course).

It is going to be a learning experience, so any and all comments, critiques and encouraging words are welcome.

Thanks for viewing.

Bands at the Bay

12/9/10 - Day 356
Leaving my South San Francisco office today, I was struck by the overcast over the bay and the horizontal bands of grass, Bay, horizon and sky, all punctuated by the lone sailboat.

Oyster Point Marina

11/3/10 - Day 320
Stopped off at the marina on the way to checking into my hotel, looking for a naturally framed shot to submit for today's Daily Shoot #353: "Frames outline the focus of a subject. Make a creative photo with natural framing: windows, doors, trees, borders, etc."

It was so beautiful, I brought out my watercolors and painted the scene rather than photographing it. NOT. Dry brush filter in PSE.

Public Art x 4

10/28/10 - Day 314
Today's Daily Shoot #347 just screamed once again for going to the SymmetriCam on my smart phone: "Make a photograph today that has a strongly centered composition."  The subject was selected based on a request from my Flickr friend @muffett68 to see more of the sculpture and building shown in yesterday's post.

This sculpture is a custom designed water feature for a 3 building campus project we completed about two years ago.  Providing public art was part of the requirements necessary to obtain the municipal entitlements.

Check out my Flickr set on SymmetriCam shots for more images using this sculpture.

The Glass is Always Greener...

8/10/10 - Day 235
..if the sun is shining, but this shot was taken on a cloudy evening.  Pushed the green in post processing for today's Daily Shoot #268: "Today's color is green. Make a photo of a green subject today and post it."

Light at the End of the Tunnel

7/21/10 - Day 215
Nope, actually "Light at the Top of the Skylight" would be a more accurate description.  Humongous skylight shot today at one of our construction projects.

June in SSF

6/7/10 - Day 171
Walked down to the marina after working today in my South San Francisco office.  The wind was whipping and the temp was chilly.  I tried to capture the wind in the foreground tree branches and used b/w to convey the coolness of the air.  Don't know if it worked, but I do know it was pretty uncomfortable out!

Best Burrito

4/28/10 - Day 131
This was without doubt the toughest shooting day since I started P365.  Jammed up all day and had barely enough time to grab dinner at my all time favorite burrito place, Los Compadres in South San Francisco, before going to a marathon City Council meeting.  As we were getting our burritos,  the fixin's for the dinner crowd was being grilled up and I was fortunate to even get this shot off with my camera phone.  Today is my only "one shot day" so far.

Cat on a Hot Tin Hood

3/24/10 - Day 96
Saw this guy as I parked my car at the office this morning.  Obviously nothing to do with the Tennessee Williams play of a similar name.

Carnitas y Pacifico

3/23/10 - Day 95
Dinner tonight at Los Pinos, my all time favorite Mexican restaurant in South San Francisco.

The Wanderer

3/4/10 - Day 76
As I was pulling out of the hotel parking lot this morning, I saw this guy wandering down the street, plastic bags in hand.  I only had a couple of seconds to pull out the point & shoot and got one shot off through the car windshield.

Rube Goldberg

3/3/10 - Day 75
Did a walk-thru of an existing property today, including the roof.  This image is a small section of the maze of piping, ductwork and equipment.

Jailbreak 2?

2/3/10 - Day 47
Nope.  Just some exterior stud wall construction going on at one of my project sites.  See Day 18 for an earlier image in the Jailbreak series.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters

1/6/10 - Day 19
As part of entitlements associated with a campus project, a pedestrian bridge over an adjacent slough was required.  This bridge ties together two sections of the San Francisco Bay Trail.  The sunrise image of a bridge detail looks out onto the San Francisco Bay.

Jailbreak?

1/5/10 - Day 18
Nope.  Just some concrete wall demolition going on at one of my project construction sites.
