Giant Swords against the Butterfly

Well, at least that's what it looked like after I shot it with the SymmetriCam.  Taken at the Denver airport.  Stopped in Denver for dinner with my son.

The image was fairly desaturated, but the yellow/gold was pretty ugly, so I used the sliders...no bonus points for the Daily Shoot #355: "Make a photo today with a subject low in color saturation.  Bonus points for not using a software slider!"

Double Take

I've flown out of O'Hare hundreds of times and never noticed this sign before. I can't imagine what this area of the airport looks like but have a pretty good idea what it smells like!

Sad Çikiş

After two wonderful weeks in Greece & Istanbul, time to return home. We were sad to leave; Hydra, Athens, Santorini and Istanbul are all amazing places that were coupled with memorable people experiences.

Homeward Bound

On the way home from San Diego I was able to shoot wide for today's Daily Shoot assignment #271: "Make a photograph using wide focal length. Zoom or prime or iPhone cameras all qualify for going wide today."  I am so used to zooming in on my aerial shots, this assignment forced me to stay wide and compose an expansive shot.

Twin Peaks

Another shot taken at the Denver airport.  The cloudy skies make an interesting negative space for the peaks of the airport structure…or is it the other way around?  Daily Shoot assignment #251.

Watercolor

Knowing that I would land in Chicago after midnight, I wanted to get a photo at the airport today before boarding my flight.  The flight was leaving from SFO's international terminal, so the modern structure and polished floor made a great subject.  However, since there was sufficient time before the flight, I decided to paint this watercolor instead and then take a photo of it (yeah, right!).

Hole in the Sky

Flying into O'Hare today, we were dodging the clouds.  We landed under a ceiling of dark clouds.  Taxiing to the gate, I saw this bright spot and was able to get the camera out in time to capture it.

Coming & Going

Returning to Chicago from San Francisco today, I had a rear-facing seat in the reconfigured business cabin of a United 767.  It was a real interesting perspective and allowed me to capture a plane landing to the west as we were taking off to the south.

Rain

Raining hard in SF this morning.  With 40 minutes on the tarmac waiting for a gate, I was able to play with the dials on the point & shoot (Daily Shoot assignment). This shot was taken out the airplane window using the supermacro setting.

Landing at O'Hare tonight, I was very surprised at how deserted the United terminal was.  Rarely having the opportunity to see it so empty, I placed the camera on the floor near the center of Terminal C to get this shot back toward the gates.

Fog Layer

In all the years I've been flying into SFO, the fog layer has never been this low.  This image is the of the San Mateo Bridge peeking through the clouds while on approach.  We were in the clouds until seconds before touchdown.

With 500 flights canceled at O'Hare yesterday, I had no idea if we'd make it out of SFO on time today.  We did, and I captured this image of the plane's shadow as it left runway 1R.
