8/31/10 - Day 256
Got today's Daily Shoot assignment #289 done early: "Illustrate your local weather today with a photo. Rain or shine. Cloudy or clear. Communicate what it's like to the world." [processed in Photogene on the iPad]

Cold Diagonal
8/30/10 - Day 255
After not shooting yesterday's Daily Shoot assignment on "cold", I was determined to capture two assignments today, #287 and #288, in the same shot. Using the light painting inspiration from Crow, I pulled out the ice drawer from the freezer, threw in some glow sticks and shot away. As predicted, it took about 50 shots to get a good one (IMHO).

Twisted Blinds
8/28/10 - Day 253
Tended towards shooting venetian blinds today for the Daily Shoot #286: "Use repetition to create an interesting photograph today. Grids, patterns, or a series of lines will all do the trick." First I shot the blinds in the bedroom when the sun shining through this morning woke me up. Then, reviewing some older posts from DS friends, I was reminded of the multi-exposure technique (thanks Remek) and thought that would make an interesting composition using the blinds. Converted to b/w to emphasize the geometry rather than the actual subject matter.

Circle Over Chicago
8/27/10 - Day 252
Circled over the city today on approach to O'Hare. Couldn't quite get Sears Tower and the Hancock Building all in the frame. However, this still qualifies for Daily Shoot #151: "Every town, village, or city has distinguishing icons and landmarks. Make a photo of one wherever you are today." Working on catching up some older assignments.

A Two-fer
8/26/10 - Day 251
I've fallen behind on the Daily Shoot so am using today's shot for two assignments; #283: "Make a photo of a tool today. Screwdriver. Pliers. Computer. What's the tool you find most important on a daily basis?" and #284: "Make a photograph with soft light today. Try to almost totally eliminate shadows on your subject."

8/25/10 - Day 250
The Giants lost a heartbreaker today to the Reds in 12 innings. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful day at AT&T Park.

Lantern on the Deck
8/24/10 - Day 249
Another evening working down that wine stash from last night's P365 shot. After a couple glasses of wine, this lantern was looking pretty interesting. Shot for today's Daily Shoot #282: "Make a low key photo today with lots of dark areas. You might need to use exposure compensation to make it work."

I didn't see the optical illusion in this image in the camera, only after looking on screen. Shot for today's Daily Shoot #280: "Make a photograph of something made out of glass. Be sure to go for interesting reflections or highlights." To see another version, check out my Flickr photostream.

Hole in the Grass to the Sky
8/21/10 - Day 246
There are many days when it is tough to get one shot, but today I had the opportunity for two. I used this shot for today's Daily Shoot assignment #279: "Make a photograph from a high point of view. Get on top of a building, use a ladder, or just look down at a small object." Thought it was a cool image so decided to upload to P365 as well.

A Bunch of New Stuff
8/20/10 - Day 245
Tried a whole bunch of new stuff tonight while shooting today's Daily Shoot assignment #278: "Make a photograph with a shallow depth of field today. Get in close if you need to force it with the lens you have."
First, I used my 50mm f1.8 with a reversing ring for the shallow DoF.
Second, I transferred the images from camera to iPad using the camera connection kit.
Third, I processed the image in an excellent iPad photo app called Photogene. No processing in Lightroom.
Lastly, I transferred the processed image back to computer for exporting through Lightroom.
I could have posted the image directly from the iPad, but wanted to see if the EXIF metadata transferred into Lightroom...it didn't. That is the one serious downfall of working with photos on the iPad. If anyone out there has a metadata solution for the iPad, please let me know!

8/19/10 - Day 244
Dinner tonight in San Francisco with colleagues and friends at Live, my all time favorite sushi place. Had to work quick to get a shot of the last remnants of grilled squid. Outstanding! Shot for today's Daily Shoot #277: "Make a photograph of something you eat today. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack. Make it look tasty."
Natural light and SOOC except for crop and a little sharpening.

Keepin' It Green
8/17/10 - Day 242
Leaving for the train this morning, I saw glistening in the grass from the underground sprinklers doing their job. Got this shot off before getting soaked. Also works for a Daily Shoot catch-up shot - assignment #30: "Let's try another color theme, this time make it green: green sleeves, green with envy, green eggs and ham, you name it!"

Zoom/Flash
8/16/10 - Day 241 Today's Daily Shoot assignment #274 was: "Make a photograph of a plant today. It can be a small one in a pot, a big one in the park, or a tree in a forest." I didn't want to do a simple plant shot and thought I'd experiment with zoom blur and remote, rear curtain flash all in one image.

On the way home from San Diego I was able to shoot wide for today's Daily Shoot assignment #271: "Make a photograph using wide focal length. Zoom or prime or iPhone cameras all qualify for going wide today." I am so used to zooming in on my aerial shots, this assignment forced me to stay wide and compose an expansive shot.
